Diane Donald, sponsor of the Virginia-class submarine Indiana (SSN 789) and wife of Adm. Kirk Donald (U.S. Navy, Ret.), smashed a bottle of American sparkling wine across the submarine’s hull on Saturday, April 29, to christen the submarine. Vice President Mike Pence served as guest speaker at the christening, which was not open to the public. Invited guests include shipbuilders and their families; Indiana sailors and their families; the Donald family and invited guests; HII President and CEO Mike Petters and Newport News Shipbuilding President Matt Mulherin; and Navy and government representatives.
