Washington (SSN 787) Christening

The Virginia-class submarine Washington (SSN 787) was christened at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Newport News Shipbuilding.

Washington (SSN 787), named for the State of Washington, will be christened at Newport News Shipbuilding where the ship is being constructed. During the ceremony, Ship's Sponsor Elisabeth Mabus, daughter of Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, performed the traditional honor of breaking a bottle of American sparkling wine across the ship's bow during the christening ceremony.
