NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Sept. 27, 2011) – Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. (NYSE:HII) announced today that shipbuilders from the company's Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division made donations to the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula, the Wounded Warrior Project and area shelters during the shipyard's Family Day event, which attracted an estimated 15,000 shipbuilders and their family and friends.

"Our shipbuilders take great pride and ownership in giving back to the community," said Chavis Harris, NNS' director, EEO, Diversity and Corporate Citizenship. "Family Day provided a terrific opportunity to partner with several agencies in our community to help our neighbors in need."

More than 1,500 pounds of food was donated to the Foodbank; more than $500 in proceeds from a dunk tank was donated to the Wounded Warrior Project, and all of the prepared food that remained after Family Day was delivered to area shelters in honor of Hunger Action Month.

"The Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula would like to thank all of the Huntington Ingalls employees for the generosity that they display throughout the year in support of hunger relief," said Donna Tighe, the Foodbank's volunteer and community events manager. "Their food donations from this event came at a time when the Foodbank is experiencing critically low food levels. They are making a difference in the lives of many in our community, and we appreciate their support to help end domestic hunger."
