NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Oct. 3, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. (NYSE:HII) is pleased to announce its three star-level sponsorship of the annual USO Gala, which will take place Thursday, Oct. 6 at the Wardman Park Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C. HII's sponsorship will help enable the USO to continue its critical mission of lifting the spirits of troops and their families through the many programs the organization delivers to service members, their families and wounded warriors.
"The work that the USO does to support our service men and women and their families around the world is invaluable," said HII President and CEO Mike Petters. "As a company that for more than 100 years has built the great military ships that help protect America's freedoms around the world, we are honored to partner with the USO to continue to support this very important cause."
Kelli Seely, the USO's senior vice president and chief development officer, said, "The USO Gala is something we look forward to every fall. Not only because it allows us to pay tribute to the men and women who sacrifice their lives every day to protect our country, but also because it gives us the opportunity to thank our partners and sponsors that make it possible for the USO to fulfill its mission. Without partners like Huntington Ingalls, we could not do what we've been doing for the past 70 years."
This year the USO celebrates its 70th anniversary. The star-studded event will feature comedian Carlos Mencia, legendary country icon Randy Travis and Miss USA 2011. The gala will also be used to recognize a special volunteer as well as honorees selected by the senior enlisted representatives from each branch of the armed forces for their extraordinary bravery, loyalty and heroism.
Among the estimated 1,000 guests will be Washington dignitaries, members of Congress, military leadership, celebrities, members of the USO Board of Governors, USO corporate sponsors and the media.
