NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Nov. 15, 2011) – Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) announced today that its Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division broke ground for the 10th home it is building with Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg.
"It's hard to believe that we are building our 10th house with Habitat for Humanity," said Danny Hunley, NNS vice president of operations. "Our shipbuilders take pride and ownership in giving back to the community, and it is an honor to give to such a worthy cause."
The traditional ranch-style home will be located at 1045 29th St. in Newport News. At about 1,300 square feet, the house will have three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Plans are to turn over the keys to the future homeowners in spring 2012.
"Our 10-year amazing partnership with Newport News Shipbuilding has greatly helped us increase the number of families served in our community," said Alexis N. Swann, Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg board president. "We are so grateful for Huntington Ingalls Industries' support of our efforts to provide safe, decent, affordable homes in partnership with families in need."
Habitat for Humanity partners with area families, local government, businesses, faith groups, schools, associations and individual volunteers and donors to build safe, decent, affordable homes and also to repair homes for lower-income families.
