Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) Turns 180 Degrees

More than 200 shipbuilders, 1200 sailors and five tugboat crews worked together for 12 hours on Saturday, June 11, 2016, to turn the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) 180 degrees at Newport News Shipbuilding’s Pier 3, moving the ship another step closer to delivery. The aircraft carrier’s stern now faces the James River, which facilitates final testing of the ship’s systems, including the aircraft launch system.
