Media Invited to Virginia-Class Submarine Minnesota (SSN 783) Christening and Media Preview Events

MEDIA ADVISORY, Oct. 18, 2012 --


What: Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII) will christen the  
  nation's newest Virginia-class submarine, Minnesota (SSN 783),
  on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the company's Newport News  
  Shipbuilding (NNS) division. Media are invited to attend the  
  ceremony as well as a media preview event Friday, Oct. 26, in  
  advance of the festivities. The preview event will provide an  
  opportunity to interview Minnesota shipbuilders and sailors, as
  well as ship's sponsor Ellen Roughead, a Minnesota native and wife
  of former Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead.  
  The christening ceremony is not open to the public. Invited guest
  include shipbuilders and their families; Minnesota sailors and the
  families; Roughead and her family; HII President and CEO Mike
  Petters and NNS President Matt Mulherin; and Navy and  
  government representatives. Adm. Kirkland Donald, director of
  naval nuclear propulsion, will serve as the keynote speaker.  
  Roughead, Petters and Mulherin will be available for interviews  
  following the ceremony. HII will provide a live, multi-camera
  satellite broadcast of the christening ceremony in its entirety.

Where: Media will park outside of the 60th Street gate in the parking lot
  east of the Welding School and be escorted and transported by bus
  to and from the site through the 60th Street gate (see directions  
  below). The event will be held inside the Module Outfitting  
  Facility (MOF). The bus will depart at 9:35 a.m. on Friday and
  9:20 a.m. on Saturday.
