NEWPORT NEWS, Va., AVONDALE, La. and PASCAGOULA, Miss., Nov. 19, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Shipbuilding sector has raised over $2.4 million for the 2009 United Way campaign.
"We're sending powerful messages with our contribution -- we not only build ships, we build communities," said Bill Ermatinger, sector vice president of human resources and administration. "Each shipbuilder had a hand in that."
The 2009-2010 campaign was held from September through October with a goal to collect $2.1 million across the sector. Employees who donated chose from organizations in their states such as The American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society and the Salvation Army.
"In this type of economy for you all to accomplish this, my hat goes off to you," said Bill Downey of Riverside Health System and chairman of the 2009 United Way Campaign for the Virginia Peninsula. "We appreciate all that you do."
Carolyn Moore, chief professional officer for the United Way of Jackson and George counties in Mississippi, said "Northrop Grumman employees have always been so giving to our community, and we are thankful to all employees who gave to United Way in 2009.
